Make that four straight dual victories for the Iowa State wrestling team.
The Cyclones defeated Rider, 29-17, on Thursday night at the Alumni Gym in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Iowa State is now 5-1 overall, while the Broncs fall to 4-3.
Iowa State ultimately took seven of 10 matches, but only won by 12 team points because three Cyclone wrestlers lost by fall. Austin Gomez (133), Logan Schumacher (165) and Gannon Gremmel (285) all went down by pin to their Rider counterparts.
Of the Cyclones’ seven wins, five included bonus points. Both Alex Mackall (125) and Ian Parker (141) scored pins. Jarrett Degen (149), Marcus Coleman (174) and Sam Colbray (184) all scored major decisions. Both Chase Straw (157) and Willie Miklus (197) won by decision.
Iowa State continues its East Coast road trip by taking on West Virginia (2-9, 2-2 Big 12) on Sunday at noon.
