Dorance Armstrong declares for NFL Draft

In a tweet just sent out a few minutes ago, Dorance Armstrong has declared for the NFL Draft.

After an impressive sophomore campaign in 2016 that saw him pick up 10 sacks and 20 TFLs, Armstrong was named the preseason Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year coming into 2017. 2017 ended up being a disappointment, however, as his numbers dropped to 1.5 sacks and 9 TFLs.

As of September of 2017, Armstrong projected as a first-round draft pick should he forego his senior season. From what I can find, he is a consensus top-10 DE in this year’s upcoming draft. He is currently projected as a second day pick, meaning rounds 2 or 3, by NFLDraftScout.com and WalterFootball.com. USA Today’s Draftwire site’s most recent mock draft a few days ago has Armstrong at #46 overall.

Obviously this is a huge loss for the Kansas defense and David Beaty’s rebuilding effort (not that the coaches knew what to do with him anyway).

Godspeed, Dorance, good luck in the NFL. We’re all rooting for you.
