I guess there just wasn’t enough magic tonight.
Hilton Coliseum has been unkind to the Jayhawks in recent years, but that was certainly not the case tonight. KU came out firing and was hitting their threes, a welcome change from some of their recent performances. Meanwhile, Iowa State followed the recent trend of KU opponents shooting most of their shots from three, and not hitting many of them.
KU hit of six of eight from deep in the first half while building a 46-26 advantage heading into the locker room. At the break, both Devon Dotson and Udoka Azubuike were in double digits already. Somewhere, Melvin Weatherwax wept while planning to attack the Kansas coaching staff with a stick.
Things never got any tighter through the second half as the Jayhawks coasted to a 78-53 victory. Some individual notes:
-David McCormack was good in this one as Self ran a bit more of the two-big look. Big Mac had 16 points and six boards, and turned it over just once.
-Azubuike posted ten points and seven boards, but did not score in the second half.
-Agbaji’s trouble taking care of the ball continued with four turnovers, but scored 16 on just seven shots.
-Dotson put up 20 with six assists, and once again hit two of five from deep to continue bringing up his 3P%.
-Isaiah Moss pulled another disappearing act, scoring two on 1-5 shooting.
The Jayhawks have a big one coming up Saturday, hosting the 4th ranked Baylor Bears at noon Jayhawk Time.
