Eddie Maverick Thomas (b. July 28, 2000) is an athletic defensive back who graduated from Carver High School early to take part in spring practices. He will compete for playing time during his first year in Manhattan, but is likely (although not certain) to redshirt in 2018.

Thomas played under head coach Darren Myles. He was named a Georgia High School Association (GHSA) first-team All-Region 6-AAAAA selection as a senior in 2017, while he was a second-team pick in 2016.

Thomas helped to lead the Panthers to the Final Four round of the Georgia Class AAAAA playoffs in 2017 — the Panthers’ first time in the Final Four since 1968 — while the team won its first regional title since 2007.

He also participated in track and field, and his 4×400 relay team placed fourth in the state championship, so you know he’s probably got some wheels.

Thomas picked K-State over offers from Appalachian State, Ball State, Campbell, Chattanooga, Colorado State, Mercer, Troy, Western Carolina and Western Kentucky. Here’s what Ian Boyd at SportsTreatise had to say about his potential as a cornerback:

I think Thomas is a very good cornerback prospect for K-State — he’s very physical in knocking guys off routes, and has the hips and recovery speed to run with guys up and down the field. He’s also physical against the run and could play on the boundary quite comfortably, especially after spending more time in the weight room.

Thomas played cornerback for the Purple team in the 2018 spring game, but had no stats.
