K-State to Unveil Tointon Family Stadium Friday

MANHATTAN, Kan. – K-State will unveil the newly renovated Tointon Family Stadium with a Friday doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. against Fairleigh Dickinson, kicking off a three-game series between the Wildcats and Knights.

Fans can get their first look at the completed $15 million project that includes a new 44-foot high Edgerley Family Videoboard and a 3,200 square-foot Wildcat-themed Sidlinger Family Playground for kids 12 and under. Additionally, all seats in the main seating bowl have been upgraded to chairback seats along with the expansion of protective netting down the foul lines and the playground.

Friday’s games mark the season’s first $2 Dog Friday, as fans can enjoy hot dogs for just $2 while supplies last. Tickets for Saturday’s game can be purchased for just $3 with a men’s basketball ticket vs. Kansas.

Single-game general admission tickets are available for just $5 when purchased in advance at K-StateSports.com/tickets.

The second game of Friday’s doubleheader will begin approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one. K-State (3-5) and FDU (1-3) will wrap up the series Saturday at 4 p.m.

The entire series will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, with radio coverage available all weekend on News Radio KMAN (93.3 FM, 1350 AM). Live, free audio will stream at K-StateSports.com/watch and on the K-State Sports app.

A LOOK AT K-STATE
Following an eight-game trip through south Texas and a midweek stop at Wichita State, K-State returns home to open the newly renovated Tointon Family Stadium … The Wildcats went 3-5 over the eight-game road swing after a 2-1 loss at WSU Wednesday … K-State, which has lost its last three games by a combined five runs, got a home run from Dylan Phillips in its second consecutive one-run loss … The Cats went 1-2 at the Kleberg Bank College Classic in Corpus Christi last weekend … K-State defeated former conference rival Missouri Friday, 5-1, behind six innings turned in by starter Connor McCullough and a two-run home run by Chris Ceballos … McCullough punched out eight in turning in his second straight quality start (6 IP, 1 ER) and earning his first collegiate victory … The Cats dropped the final two games of the roadtrip against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Utah despite leading in both contests … Sunday, K-State carried a combined no-hitter into the ninth innings behind seven hitless innings from starter Jordan Wicks, who struck out a career-high 10 batters … Tyler Eckberg tossed a perfect eighth before allowing a leadoff single to the Utes’ Matt Richardson, the only hit Utah registered on the day … Utah would later walk off when the Cats failed to turn an inning-ending double play … Offensively, Daniel Carinci led the Cats last weekend with five hits, including a double, while Kamron Willman drove in three.

Led by first-year head coach Rob DiToma, Fairleigh Dickinson heads to Manhattan after being swept in a three-game series last weekend at William & Mary … In the series, FDU was outscored 37-13 … James Donlon leads the Knights offense, hitting .455 with three doubles, a home run and five RBI … Tom Ruscitti has already hit two homers and driven in six in four games for FDU … Infielder Nate Brodsky was named First Team All-NEC last season … The Fairleigh Dickinson pitching staff has issued 35 walks with 24 strikeouts over 33 innings … Opponents are hitting .321 against them while FDU has a 9.00 team earned run average … The Knights were voted eighth (last) in the Northeast Conference preseason coaches’ poll.

The Cats’ three starting pitchers from the state of Arkansas – Kasey Ford, Connor McCullough and Jordan Wicks – have combined to pitch four quality outings in five starts over the first seven games … The trio has combined to go 3-1 with a 1.25 ERA (5 ER, 36.0 IP) with 42 strikeouts … Ford, who got the start Wednesday at Wichita State, went 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts while giving up just one run on two hits at UTRGV on Feb. 17 … McCullough and Wicks have each turned in back-to-back quality starts, while Wicks has yet to allow an earned run in 14 innings … Wicks, a sophomore, held Utah hitless over seven frames with a career-high 10 strikeouts on Sunday.

Cameron Thompson has started every game during his Wildcat career and is on the verge of breaking into the program’s top-10 list in the category at 175 career starts … Thompson, a four-year senior and team captain, has started games in center field, third base, second base and shortstop … Now slotted as the everyday third baseman, Thompson has led the Cats in hits in two of the last three seasons … If the Pasadena, Texas, product starts all 56 scheduled regular-season games in 2020, he would move into second in program history with 223 career starts … Thompson is also on the brink of K-State’s career top-10 list in career at-bats, hits and games played.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
K-State has a plus-three run differential through the first eight games despite a 3-5 record … From the seventh inning on, the Wildcats have been outscored 8-4 but have scored seven more runs than their opponents in the game’s first six innings … The Cats have held a lead in three of their five losses … K-State is 3-0 when scoring at least four runs but 1-5 when allowing at least two runs … In losses, K-State’s offense has gone 9 for 53 (.170) with two outs and 5 for 26 (.192) with runners in scoring position … Conversely, the Cats are hitting .382 (13 for 34) with runners in scoring position in victories and .265 (9 for 34) with two outs.
