Preview: Struggling Oklahoma State hosts Texas

The Cowboys remain in the hunt for their first Big 12 win of the season.

Oklahoma State looks to end a three-game losing streak when they host Texas on Wednesday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowboys (9-6, 0-3 Big 12) are still in search of their first conference victory. OSU’s defense has looked decent at times, but its offense is anemic and if the Cowboys aren’t scoring points they won’t being winning games any time soon.

The Longhorns have also struggled of late, losing three of their last five. Texas, however, is 1-2 in conference play with losses to No. 3 Baylor and No. 48 Oklahoma and winning their most recent matchup with No. 96 Kansas State (all KenPom rankings). The Longhorns’ most impressive win of the season came early when they defeated No. 16 Purdue 70-66 in West Lafayette.

Texas struggles from beyond the arc, shooting 33 percent as a team, and from the free-throw line at 63.6 percent.

Matt Coleman III leads the team in scoring and assists. The junior from Norfolk, Virginia, leads a balanced offensive attack, as four players average double-digit points per game. Coleman is without a doubt the best shooter on the team, and would represent the most likely player that could get hot and pressure the Cowboys with his scoring.

The question will ultimately come down to this: can the Cowboys put the ball through the net? Again, a revolutionary question, but I really feel like it’s as simple as that. The defense has been good enough to win, but the offense has been egregious. Here’s to hoping the night ends with first conference win.
