Hook ‘Em set to compete at the 2018 College Mascot National Championship – University of Texas

Ten mascots have qualified to compete in the 2018 College Mascot National Championship for Division I football schools. The University of Texas costumed mascot, Hook ‘Em, made the top 10 and will be competing in Orlando, Florida on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018. The competition is hosted by the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) and the Universal Dance Association (UDA). The entire event may be viewed via live stream on Varsity TV on Varsity.com. The mascot performances will be streamed on Saturday, Jan. 13 starting at 1 p.m. CT. The champions will be announced following the conclusion of the competition.
For the final competition, mascots are required to perform a customized routine set to music.  Mascots are judged on a variety of criteria including crowd interaction, creativity, animation, prop usage, and overall impression.

Joining Hook ‘Em at the national finals will be mascots from the following institutions:

Auburn – “Aubie”
Cincinnati – “Bearcat”
Colorado – “Chip”
Iowa – “Herky the Hawk”
Minnesota – “Goldy Gopher”
Ohio State – “Brutus Buckeye”
Penn State – “Nittany Lion”
Tennessee – “Smokey”
Wisconsin – “Bucky Badger”

Results from all divisions will be posted on Varsity.com as soon as they are announced.

2018 marks the second consecutive year Hook ‘Em has qualified for the College Mascot National Championship.  Last season, he qualified for the first time in program history and finished fourth in the nation.
