Texas men’s tennis coach Bruce Berque, others get new contracts through 2024

New Texas men’s tennis coach Bruce Berque, who led the Longhorns to the national title last season as an assistant, is set to receive a five-year guaranteed deal worth $215,000 annually.

The UT System Board of Regents is set to approve new contracts for Berque and four other coaches that all stretch into 2024, according to the agenda book posted online Monday.

The UT regents are scheduled to meet Wednesday and Thursday. All multi-year contracts or any deal worth more than $1 million annually must be approved by UT regents.

Berque was elevated to interim head coach last March after longtime coach Michael Center got caught up in the college admissions scandal. Berque guided the Horns to the program’s first NCAA national championship in May.

Berque will receive a standard contract that most UT head coaches receive. He will receive one dealer-provided automobile, a social club membership and bonuses for the team’s future performance.

Women’s tennis coach Howard Joffe also got a slight raise and will receive $215,285 as part of his new deal that runs through August 2024.

Women’s swimming coach Carol Capitani ($213,090) and women’s golf coach Ryan Murphy ($205,000) also got slight raises. Rowing coach Dave O’Neill has a new contract worth $215,370 this upcoming year and will rise to $235,370 by the 2023-24 academic year.
