The No. 1 Texas volleyball team won its 14th straight match and earned another sweep Saturday, defeating TCU 25-19, 25-16, 25-23 at Gregory Gym.
Micaya White led Texas with 14 kills as the Longhorns held a decided hitting percentage edge, .329 to .090.
The Longhorns (19-2, 13-0 Big 12) also made 12 team blocks to the Horned Frogs’ four. Brionne Butler led Texas with eight blocks while White and Skylar Fields each had three. Fields also chipped in nine kills.
Jhenna Gabriel assisted on 31 points and also led the team with nine digs. Logan Eggleston and Sydney Petersen each had eight digs. Eggleston also had seven kills and three aces.
Texas jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first set and held TCU at arm’s length throughout the game. TCU (9-14, 4-9) got within three points late, but a 4-1 run finished off the set for Texas.
The Horned Frogs led 4-1 to start the second set, but the Longhorns turned things around in a hurry. With TCU leading 10-7, the Longhorns went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. Texas never trailed again and had an 8-0 run later in the game before closing out the set on a kill by Fields.
TCU took a 13-10 lead in the third set and Texas responded with another run. A 6-2 run put Texas up 16-15 before the Horned Frogs responded to regain the lead at 19-17. A 5-0 run by Texas made it 22-19 for the Longhorns and Texas held off the Horned Frogs the rest of the way.
The Texas volleyball team will go for its 15th straight win when it faces Baylor in Waco on Wednesday. The Longhorns swept the Bears for sole position in first place of the Big 12 conference the last time the teams played.
