Texas volleyball takes another Big 12 win

The No. 1 Texas volleyball team finally dropped another set in Big 12 action but ultimately defeated Oklahoma 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13 in Norman on Friday.

Micaya White led Texas (17-2, 11-0 Big 12) with 20 kills while Logan Eggleston added 15. White logged a double-double as she led the Longhorns with 15 digs as well.

Jhenna Gabriel made 41 assists to lead Texas. Defensively, Brionne Butler had seven blocks while Sydney Petersen chipped in 14 digs.

Ashlynn Dunbar led the Sooners with 19 kills. Oklahoma (15-7, 7-4) claiming one set is a victory in itself, as the Longhorns hadn’t dropped a set since the Big 12 opener against Iowa State on Sept. 25. The Longhorns have won 12 straight matches.

Texas opened the first game with a 5-1 lead, but Oklahoma found a way to take an 18-17 lead later in the set. That’s when Texas went on an 8-2 run to close out the game.

The second game started out pretty even before the Longhorns used an 11-2 run to take a 23-14 lead. The Sooners fought back with a 6-1 run of their own, but Texas finished off the set.

After the game was tied 9-9 in the third set, OU scored three straight points and never relinquished the lead.

The Longhorns bounced back in a big way, however, utilizing an early 7-0 run to take a 13-4 lead in the fourth set. Texas had runs of four and five points later in the game as it cruised to the win.
