NORMAN, Okla. – Oklahoma scored touchdowns on its first five possessions of the first half and added a late field goal to take a commanding 45-10 lead into the locker room at halftime.
With starter Baker Mayfield suspended for Oklahoma’s first offensive possession of the game, backup Kyler Murray ran 66 yards on the game’s opening play to the WVU 4 where Rodney Anderson scored.
Anderson crossed the goal line three more times, and Mayfield returned to the field to hit tight end Mark Andrews for a 14-yard score late in the second quarter.
OU got a late 51-yard field goal from Austin Siebert when Gary Jennings‘ lateral to Ka’Raun White was fumbled and Oklahoma recovered the football at the WVU 33 with four seconds left in the half.
Mayfield was nearly perfect, completing 11 of his 12 first-half pass attempts for 238 yards and two touchdowns while Anderson ran 13 times for 118 yards.
Oklahoma rolled up 443 yards of offense in the first half.
West Virginia’s first half scores came on Evan Staley‘s 28-yard, first-quarter field goal and Kennedy McKoy‘s 1-yard touchdown run.
Backup Chris Chugunov, playing in place of injured starter Will Grier, completed 8-of-12 passes for 107 yards. The WVU ground game, operating a lot out of the Wildcat formation with McKoy taking direct snaps, accumulated 117 yards.
West Virginia deferred the opening coin toss and will receiving the opening kickoff of the second half.
