West Virginia Football Announces 2019 Promotions: Gold Rush, Family Day, True Blue and Stripe the Stadium

Get your calendars out and mark these dates down

It might be the dog days of summer, but West Virginia Football just announced their promotions for the upcoming season and that means it’s beginning to look like football season. There are four promotional home games this year as there have been the past few years: Family Day, Stripe the Stadium, Gold Rush and True Blue.

Family Day

Family Day will be the first game of the Neal Brown era, a home game on August 31st against the JMU Dukes. The game is presented by BrickStreet, at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium. Fans can purchase four tickets and a $25 concession voucher for $150 per Family Day package.

Uniform Prediction: I fully expect Neal Brown to wear the old gold and blue a lot during his first season and the first game is the place to bring that to fruition. Blue hats, blue jerseys, old gold pants. Just like mama told you.

Gold Rush

The game that wasn’t played because of Hurricane Florence, against the N.C. State Wolfpack on September 14th is the annual Gold Rush game. This game, when played at night, is the best visual in college sports. The entire stadium lined in old gold causing seismographs to go off is just what every Mountaineer ordered. Unfortunately, this game will not be played at night, instead being played at noon. According to Fox Sports, this is to showcase their best game of the day as early as possible, but for fans, it means less time to tailgate.

Uniform Prediction: Gold Hats (if we have them), Gold Jerseys, Blue Pants

Stripe the Stadium

Ah, yes the first conference home game, where we ask fans in alternating sections to wear either blue or old gold. To be honest, I figured we would screw this up when it was first announced in 2012. We didn’t and since then it has been an amazing crowd participation game. The stadium gets striped and the contrast of the blue and old gold is fantastic. This year, the game will be played against Texas Longhorns on October 5th and the game coincides with Homecoming. Last year’s game against Texas resulted in the call of the year from Gus Johnson, will we get the same this year?

Uniform Prediction: I’m going with the standard – Blue hats, blue jerseys, old gold pants. Like I said, I expect Neal to wear these a lot at home.

True Blue

This game originally debuted against TCU in 2014 when ESPN College Gameday came to down. The Mountaineers almost pulled off the magic that night and ever since, True Blue has been a game staple. This year, the Mountaineers will face Texas Tech Red Raiders on November 9th, in the annual game. The past few years the Mountaineers have had the Red Raiders number, pulling out one of their best defensive performances against the Red Raiders. This year, with new coaching staffs in place, will the result be the same?

Uniform Prediction: All blue (hats, jerseys, pants)
