MittieCats also in action tonight, looking to fare better down the river than their male counterparts.

The Kansas State Wildcats men’s basketball team returns to Big 12 action tonight, as they host the Oklahoma Sooners from Bramlage Coliseum. The Wildcats and Sooners have already played once this season, with the Sooners taking a close 66-61 victory over the Wildcats in Norman. Tonight’s game is on ESPN Plus at 7:02pm CST.

Bramlage is a different animal for OU coach Lon Kruger. Of course, the connection is obvious, as Kruger was not only the K-State head coach when the building opened in 1989, but also has his jersey hung from the rafters for his playing days in Manhattan. But there’s also this: Kruger has never beaten Bruce Weber in Bramlage.

Greg Woods at the Manhattan Mercury took a look at how Mike McGuirl spent his time during his two weeks off from basketball while recovering from a concussion. And today’s Sports Extra focused on guard David Sloan, who is still learning from NBA veteran Rajon Rondo.

Over on the women’s side, the Wildcats will be in Lawrence tonight for the first half of their Sunflower Showdown pair. That game will actually be easier to watch than the men’s game, with an 8pm CST broadcast on FSN. The women will look to ride the momentum picked up from their 92-74 victory over the Sooners this past weekend. The women also had some connections to Kobe Bryant besides just watching him as a player, especially K-State assistant coach Chris Carr, who played against Bryant in the NBA.

Speaking of Bryant, he had an impact in the Manhattan community outside of the college teams with some financial support to the Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan.

Ayoka Lee earned more than just the Big 12 award this week, pulling in her second national Freshman of the Week honor after her 23-20 double-double performance against OU.

General

258 K-State student-athletes were named to the Fall 2019 Big 12 Commissioners Honor Roll for their work in the classroom. The Honor Roll features all student-athletes with a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher, and this semester’s group marks the 24th-straight semester that the Wildcats have placed 200 or more on the list.
