Just days after it was revealed that Ron Tatum was entering the transfer portal, Josh McCuistion of SoonerScoop.com has reported that Oklahoma Sooners defensive tackle Derek Green has decided to leave the program. Green reportedly intends to serve in the armed forces but will also enter the transfer portal in the event of a change of plans. The freshman had signed with the Sooners in December and was already on campus.

The Jacksonville, N.C. three-star signee was one of nine early enrollees who was expected to participate in spring practice, though the chances of seeing the field in 2019 were slim. Having said that, it appears that this is yet another hit to the depth of the program’s defensive front. Green had picked the Sooners over Georgia, Tennessee and others,
As for Green, I think I speak for all of us in saying that I commend his decision to serve this country (if that is indeed what he ends up doing) and wish him well no matter which path he takes.
